An unexpected visit from Virgil's best friend and former partner in Philadelphia, Matthew Pogue (Michael Warren), happens to coincide with the murder of two federal agents and an organized crime witness. Matthew offers to help Chief Bill Gillespie (Carroll O'Connor) and Chief Detective Virgil Tibbs (Howard Rollins) solve the murders. But the investigation takes a turn for the worse when another federal agent is murdered, and the evidence unfolds to reveal a dark secret.
